Martijn Brand is POM's new group CEO

POM Group has a new CEO. Martijn Brand took over from Kees Neven in early June. According to Neven, Brand is the right person to further guide POM on its path to becoming a leading European player in payment and collection solutions.

Neven looks back on a great time at POM

“When I started - the company was still called Mail to Pay at the time - the plan was that I would join for a limited period of time. But I quickly saw the enormous potential of the team and the product. That gave me the conviction to go for it. We are now three and a half years later.”

Changeover

Under Neven's leadership, POM quickly entered a positive flow. In three years, POM has grown enormously, not only in turnover, but also as a team. In order to achieve that, something had to change. Neven: “POM has always been extremely customer-focused, and that is also one of our strengths. We do everything we can to help customers properly. But of course, in order to grow sustainably, this also requires healthy business operations. That meant: more deliberate choices, focusing intently and embracing a more business-minded approach.”

Jump-start

What also contributed significantly to the company's positive results: two acquisitions. In November 2022, (at that time) Mail to Pay acquired the Belgian payment specialist POM under Neven's leadership. Two years later, Mind2Pay was incorporated, which makes rent collection software for housing associations. “Those were great steps,” Neven looks back. “With the takeover of POM, we had an opportunity to hit the ground running. Our technological solutions for debtor management are doing very well there. And with Mind2Pay, we have greatly strengthened our position as a supplier of debtor management software in the Dutch housing association industry. Both acquisitions went smoothly. The different teams get along very well.”

Peace of Mind

A year and a half after the takeover of POM Belgium, Mail to Pay decided to also change the name of the Dutch branch to POM. According to Neven, the name change and rebranding couldn’t have come at a better time. “The name Mail to Pay had been misaligned with our identity for quite some time. Organizations that didn't know us well thought we were only sending payment emails. With the name POM — which stands for Peace of Mind — we show that we bring peace of mind to the entire order-to-cash process.”

Ambition and potential

In addition to its presence in Belgium, POM also has an office in Germany. The company is ready to become active in other European countries as well. This is the time to put someone else at the helm of the organization, says Neven. “We have the ambition and potential to become a leading European player. To achieve this, we need to change the group structure and further professionalize the processes. That’s not exactly where my strengths lie. While I do think it's necessary. It’s been a great ride. I’m proud of everything we’ve built together. It’s been a privilege — and now, it’s time to pass the torch.”

Further professionalize

The person stepping in is Martijn Brand. He previously served as Senior Vice President and General Manager for Central Europe at the international HR and payroll services provider ADP. Prior to that, he was General Manager of ADP Netherlands for several years and also held the role of Managing Director at Xerox, among others. Neven is happy with Brand as his replacement. “We were looking for someone who would be a strong fit with POM’s family-oriented culture, but also someone with international expansion experience and the ability to further professionalize the organization. I’m fully confident that Martijn is the right person for the role.”

Facilitating

Brand is excited to lead POM into its next chapter. “I see an innovative company with tremendous growth potential — one that combines a customer-focused mindset with a culture where employees truly make the difference. The sense of familiarity Kees described is, in my view, one of POM’s greatest strengths. I’m someone who enjoys being part of the team, not someone who wants to interfere in everything. My role is more about enabling and supporting: how do we evolve from where we are today to where we aspire to be? How can each employee contribute to that journey? Can we work more intelligently, remove obstacles, and ultimately become even more successful together?”

Innovation, passion and social impact

According to Brand, POM already holds a key ingredient for future success. “POM offers smart, scalable technological solutions that help customers collect payments more efficiently, more quickly, and in a more socially responsible way. As digitization continues to gain ground across Europe, we’re seeing our solutions adopted in more and more countries. That presents a fantastic opportunity to further accelerate POM’s growth.

What sets us apart is our deep knowledge and experience — which positions us well to bring 'Peace of Mind' to organizations across borders through our innovative payment and collection solutions.”
